WALGREENS 101

Walgreen's is a great place to save money and find deals. If it is done right, there is a chance you have to pay little out of pocket, if any at all. Your goal at Walgreen's is to look for the rebates and Register Rewards (RR) and use them to your full advantage.
.
Here is what you need to know to get all the Walgreen's benefits.
.
Walgreen's Weekly ads
Every week Walgreen's has a weekly ad beginning on Sunday's. You can find the ads in the Sunday paper, in the front of any Walgreen's, or online. The ads will contain coupons that you can use along with manufacturers coupons. The ad coupons do not have to be clipped, they can be scanned. They will usually have a purchase limit on them. For example, Walgreen's Soda coupon for $.39 limit of 6. You can get 6 Walgreen's sodas for $.39 each.
. .
Walgreen's Easy Saver Catalog UPDATE As of May 2009 Walgreen's has stopped the Easy Saver program. There are still rebates available within the ad each week.
This is found in front of the store near the weekly Walgreen's ad or online. Inside the EasySaver you will find the monthly promotional rebates on select products, listed along with a few "free after rebate" items offered. There are also coupons within this booklet, called Instant Value Coupons, IVC. These can be stacked with manufactures coupons.
. .
When you purchase any of these items you can send in the rebate along with your receipt and you will receive a check. Now, here is a GREAT way to make the most of your money. Walgreen's offers you a choice for rebates, you can either receive a check for what you spent or opt to receive a Walgreen's gift card for what you spent PLUS 10%. This, in my opinion, is the best option. Once you have your first rebate check added to your card, you can now start adding more rebate money and purchasing items, including prescriptions, with very little or no money out of pocket.
.
When you do this, there are times when you can actually make money. For example, One a day vitamins are on sale for $6.99 with a rebate for $6.99 back. Use a manufacturer coupon for $2 off. You will pay $4.99, but receive $6.99 back in rebates. Add 10% if you choose to add it to a Walgreen's gift card and you now have $7.68, for a $4.99 purchase. That is an extra $2.69 on one item, for FREE!

.
Register Rewards
This is another free money offer. When you make a purchase that offers Register Rewards, RR, a coupon will print out separate from your receipt (like a catalina). Use this on your NEXT purchase the same as cash. There are a few rules to follow though:

  1. You can only receive one RR per deal. For example, when you purchase (1) Colgate toothpaste for $2.99, with $2 RR. You can't purchase more than 1 and receive another RR. If you want to purchase more than one and still receive RR, do it in another transaction. Plus, if you use your rebate gift card, there is a chance you may not have to pay anything out of pocket!
  2. You cannot use RR to pay for the same deal in another transaction. Example, you purchase the Colgate toothpaste for $2.99 and receive $2 RR, you cannot use the same $2 RR for more Colgate and earn RR.
  3. You can use coupons when purchasing RR deals. However, the register system recognizes the RR as a coupon, so you have to purchase as many items as you have coupons for. Example, you are buying Colgate toothpaste with a $1 mfg coupon and will earn $2 in RR, that is 2 coupons, with 1 item...can't do it. So, buy the cheapest thing you can find to even it out.

Coupon Order

When using coupons at Walgreen's, I have heard a few issues about some coupons won't be accepted, etc. Certain stores will allow you to have overage money (yes, sometimes your purchase is completely free to you) placed back onto your total bill. In order to try to make that a possibility AND have all the coupons accepted, here is how you should hand your coupons to the cashier. If they don't work - ask for a manager:

  • Manufacturer Coupons
  • Instant value coupons IVC (no longer available),
  • Walgreen's Ad coupons
  • Register Rewards

Here is a quick guideline of coupons according to Walgreen's:

-Walgreen's will accept one Walgreen issued coupon and one manufacturer coupon for the same item, unless either coupon prohibits such use.

-You may use a "Walgreen's" Ad coupon and a manufacturer's coupon, toward the purchase on any one item.

-Walgreen's does not provide cash back if a coupon is presented for more than the purchase value of the item.

-Coupons from other retailers or coupons for products not carried in our stores are not accepted. All valid coupons must be presented to the cashier at the time of sale.

.I think that pretty much sums up Walgreen's 101. If you have any questions or if I forgot to mention something, email me and let me know. I would love to hear from you!
