Wish it was the Weekend Wednesday (6/23)

One of the best things about summertime is the fresh fruits and vegetables at the Farmer's Market. It's a great time to eat "real" food and enjoy the taste of fresh food right out of the garden (you know it always tastes better that way!). I also like to use this as a good time to teach children about where their food comes from and to encourage healthy eating habits.

Another great thing about the farmer's market is it is FREE to get in and there is always something interesting to see, animals, new fruits or vegetables, baked goods, and learn new ways to cook and eat food. They also know exactly how the food was grown and cared for - some farms are "organic" but can not pay to have the "organic" seal. Always ask questions, it's a free lesson from the best teachers!

Local Harvest is a website that will help you find not only Farmer's Markets closest to you, but also family farms and other sustainable food sources. There are also other interesting information on the site like finding a CSA and fun facts to know about your food. There are even blogs that follow what is going on on the Farm.

*Bring reusable bags and plastic bags to separate produce * Go early * Don't shy away from the unknown, ask questions! How is it grown? How do you cook it? Know it's ripe? * Bring cash * Take your time and take it all in!

What are your favorite websites to find thing local?
