A Big Saver - Stop to do the Math

The following is a post from Courtney - My DFW Mommy - and a great reminder to Do the Math! I thought this was a perfect way to explain that bigger is not always better :)  Thanks Courtney for sharing with us!

I ran to Babies R Us last night with a friend! She was armed with the HOT $3/1 Similac Formula Coupons (print here or here) and wanted to use them.  While she was picking out what she needed, I did a little math.

You can buy 1 bottle for $4.19 (less the $3, making them just $1.19). Not bad...well then I saw a giftcard offer and thought I would do some math to see if it's a better deal. (They can be so tricky in the way they market...make you think you are really getting a deal...)

Box of 6 Ready Made Similacs for $40.74 (comes up to $6.79/bottle). This weekend they are offering a deal (laugh) where you can get a $5 giftcard if you buy two of these cases.

Let's do some math. 40.74 x 2 = $81.48 - $5 giftcard = $76.48 or $6.37/bottle

Okay even if the other wasn't on sale, the reg price is $5.99/bottle.

You are paying more...for the box? Makes no sense.  I hope this post challenges you to break out your calculator and see if you are really getting a better deal buy bulking cases or even in bulk.  I have found that I do better buying individual and using coupons.

By the way, my friend had 4 coupons and I printed her four more...so she got 8 bottles for the price of $9.52 (Retail $33.52, so a savings of $24!) What would you buy with an extra $24? Coupons are so worth using!

 Thanks again My DFW Mommy!
