Metal Braces Alternative-- Invisalign and New Invisalign Teen!

So many things have changed since I was a kid --  Pluto's not a planet, the internet is not only widely available, but we can access it from almost anywhere, and our dental correction options are better than get braces or don't!

When I was young I had a terrible overbite due to thumb sucking and could not wait to get braces and get it fixed.  It didn't even take a full day of spacers for me to realize that braces were not fun and getting that perfect smile was not going to be easy. To be honest the entire 18 months was pretty miserable.  It was the end of gum chewing, cleaning then was a huge ordeal each day, sometimes I got food stuck inside (yuck) and I always felt so self-conscious with my array of rubber bands with "cutsie" names representing their sizes like bear and chipmunk...As if being an adolescent isn't difficult enough without adding clunky metal on your teeth!

I can't imagine putting my kids through that if there is a better option and now there is!

Both teens and adults have more options when it comes to orthodontic care like Invisalign® and the new Invisalign Teen™. Both are clear, removable braces that are a more comfortable and practical option to metal braces.  Invisalign products can be removed for eating and cleaning too!

Invisalign Teen™ carries many of the same benefits of Invisalign™ with by three new features designed specifically for teens:

Aligners come with embedded compliance indicators that allow parents and doctors to monitor to wear so you'll know if your teen has been wearing them.

• Aligners can now accommodate for erupting teeth (teeth that are not in yet or partially in) along with specially engineered “eruption tabs” to compensate for erupting second molars.

• A new feature called "Power Ridges" are incorporated into aligners designed to help achieve certain difficult tooth movements.

Invisalign Teen treatment is a great option for parents because unlike traditional metal braces, there are never any emergency appointments from broken wires or brackets which means less interruptions to your busy schedule . You'll also spend less time at the orthodontist’s office since there are fewer appointments and less time there when you do because there are no uncomfortable tightenings.”

So How Does Invisalign Work?

I poured over the Invisalign site and the whole process looks really easy!  You simply wear a series of custom-made aligners that gradually shift your teeth into place using the movements your dentist or orthodontist plans for you. You do have to wear the aligners 20-22 hours per day, but they can be removed for eating and cleaning.  You'll switch to your new set about every 2 weeks.  The best part is that since the product is clear, most people won't even know you're wearing it!
