New Walgreens Balance Rewards Program Coming in September~
I have what I think is going to be some pretty sad new for Walgreens shoppers...
Walgreens will be ending their Register Rewards program within the next few months while launching Walgreens Balance Rewards in September.
Here's the information from a Walgreens representative:
The program is simple: just sign up and start saving. You will be able to instantly earn and redeem points for thousands of items in store and online and receive exclusive savings. Balance Rewards will include many of the best aspects of existing loyalty programs and have distinct features that competitors do not match, including:
-Members can earn points for making healthy choices, such as getting an immunization or participating in Walk with Walgreens (walk.walgreens.com).
-A lenient, customer-friendly expiration policy – points will not expire as long as members remain active by shopping at Walgreens at least once every six months and redeem their points within three years.
-Members may earn and redeem points for both in store and online purchases.
-Exclusive benefits for AARP members.
The current Register Rewards program, will be able to be used those in conjunction with the Balance Rewards program (until Register Rewards are no longer available).
From September 2 – 15th, you can pre-register online at http://Walgreens.com/Balance.
The program officially kicks off on September the 16th, 2012. You will be able to register in-store starting then.
Here is a brief overview of the point system:

Thanks Coupon Dad!
Of course as the new program launches I will be able to give you more information, but from test ads I have seen I really think this is going to make Walgreens shopping much less rewarding. I am a little bummed because Walgreens is the only drugstore in my area, but I'll wait and see how the program functions. What are your thoughts on the new program?
